Spencer Educational Foundation awards close to $700,000 in scholarships in 2023

Highest Scholarship Award Year in Foundation’s 44-Year History

New York, NY (August 15, 2023) – The Spencer Educational Foundation is proud to announce its 2023 Spencer Scholarship Award recipients. This year, Spencer awarded 103 scholarships to undergraduate, full-time master’s, part-time master’s, and Ph.D. students totaling $690,718, marking both the highest number of recipients and amount awarded in the Foundation’s history.

Spencer’s merit-based scholarships are awarded to students studying at institutions in the United States and Canada who aim to pursue a career in Risk Management and Insurance. Selection is based on academics, organizational involvement and leadership, honors and awards, work/internship experience, and demonstrated commitment to pursuing a career in the industry. Since Spencer’s founding in 1979, the Foundation has awarded more than 1,500 scholarships totaling over $9.5 million. This year’s recipients comprised 51% female, 48% male, and 45% non-White/non-Caucasian students.

“Spencer is proud to continue driving diverse talent into Risk Management and the Insurance Industry,” said Megan Miller, Spencer Executive Director. “Achieving this high-water mark in scholarship awards demonstrates the commitment of our industry partners to growing the talent pipeline through Spencer. Congratulations to our scholarship recipients and welcome to the Spencer Family!"

As Spencer continues to grow its scholarship program, the Foundation has expanded its named scholarship offerings, including from The Beckage Firm, Milliman, Risk Strategies, and RSUI Group. With the addition of these new partner offerings, Spencer awarded 64 named scholarships this year totaling $372,500, including 26 merit-based diversity scholarships, which are earmarked for students identifying with historically underrepresented groups in the industry.
