Changing Lives through Education
The Foundation will hold its 9th annual Gala Dinner on September 14, 2017 at the Hilton Midtown Hotel (53rd St. and 6th Ave.) in New York.
The Gala Dinner honors executives and their companies for their contributions to industry education. Proceeds from the Gala support scholarships, internship grants, Risk Manager in Residence programs and general grants.
In 2016, the Foundation awarded more than $800,000 in scholarships and grants which are helping to build a global industry talent pipeline.

2017 Gala Dinner Honorees
CEO, JLT Specialty USA
Mike Rice joined JLT in 2014 as the Chief Executive Officer of the US Specialty division. Mike is responsible for overseeing the US operations and growth of the business.
Prior to joining JLT, Mike held several senior level positions within Aon over a 25 year career. This experience included the Global Head of Sales for Aon Risk Solutions, the CEO of the Financial Services Group and the head of the technology practice. Mike worked extensively in London and across the globe.
After graduating from Boston College with a degree in Finance, Mike began his career as an executive liability underwriter with Virginia Surety Companies in 1989. He became an insurance broker in 1991 with NCC (a Lloyd’s broker) before joining the US Retail brokerage arm of Aon in 1992.
Chief Executive, North America Insurance for XL Catlin
Joseph Tocco is Chief Executive of North America for XL Catlin’s insurance operations including its Property, Casualty and Professional insurance lines. In this role, Joe drives the development and effective delivery of innovative risk management and insurance solutions to our brokers and clients based in the US, Canada and Bermuda.
Previously, Joe served as Chief Executive of the Americas region for the newly created XL Catlin organization. Before the integration of these two companies, he served as chief executive of North America Property & Casualty (P&C) unit for XL Group plc’s global insurance operations. He directed XL Group’s multiline property & casualty operations, including underwriting activities for General Property, Global Risk Management, Excess Casualty, North America Programs, Construction, Environmental and Excess & Surplus coverages, in the U.S. and Canada. Prior to this position, Joe served as President and Head of XL Group’s North America Property business and XL Global Asset Protection Services (XL GAPS), XL’s loss prevention consulting firm. He was responsible for directing XL’s property underwriting activities for General Property and Energy Property business and managing a global team of risk engineers.
Joe joined XL Group in 2011 from Zurich Financial Services, where he led the North America Property group, Global Corporate Business Unit.
Joe is a 1982 graduate of the US Naval Nuclear School, Orlando, FL and was a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Board of Fire Underwriters. He is also a veteran of the US Navy, where he served on board nuclear submarines for nine years.
Currently, Joe serves on the Board of Directors for the Spencer Educational Foundation.
