Our History

InSpencer Educational Foundation, Inc. was established in 1979 by the Atlanta Chapter of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc. (RIMS) to honor the late Robert S. Spencer, former RIMS president and vice president of Fuqua Industries, Inc. Bob Spencer was a talented and innovative leader who strongly believed in risk management education. During his term as RIMS president, he created RIMS Student Involvement Program (renamed in 1997 as the Anita Benedetti Student Involvement Program) allowing aspiring risk management and insurance students to attend RIMS Annual Conference & Exhibition and educational sessions. Since 1980, 534 scholarship awards totaling $4.2 million and grants totaling nearly $1.8 million have been awarded to students and universities in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
