Undergraduate Scholarships

The Spencer Educational Foundation, Inc. awards a variety of Scholarships for Full-Time Undergraduate Students. While each scholarship has distinct eligibility requirements, students are required to complete one full-time application.

Named and Memorial Scholarships
The Spencer Educational Foundation, Inc. awards Named and Memorial Scholarships to Full-Time Undergraduate Students. These Scholarships frequently have a designated value and eligibility criteria and are chosen by the Foundation's Education Committee from the pool of applications received. The Committee will consider applicants who meet the following criteria for the 2014-15 academic year:

Allied World Assurance Company (AWAC) $5,000 No criteria other than that a copy of the scholarship recipient's application be sent to Allied World Assurance Company.
Liberty Mutual Group Scholarship $20,000 Four (4) $5,000 scholarships awarded annually and copies of the scholarship recipient's application be sent to Liberty Mutual Group.
Anita Benedetti Memorial Scholarship $10,000 Awarded to a female graduate student selected from the pool of applications received.
Dr. Ellen Thrower Scholarship $5,000 Student attending St. John's University
RIMS Atlanta Chapter Scholarship $5,000 Permanent resident of Georgia
E.J. Leverett Memorial Scholarship (Atlanta Chapter) $5,000 Permanent resident of Georgia
RIMS Chicago Chapter Scholarship $5,000 Undergraduate students attending a college or university in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin
Gabriel Lugo Scholarship (RIMS Dallas/Ft. Worth Chapter) $5,000 Permanent residents of Texas
William J. Clagnaz ACE USA Memorial Scholarship $5,000 Permanent residents of New York City, including any of the five boroughs
John T. Lockton Memorial Scholarships (up to 10 awards) $5,000 Undergraduate risk management/insurance and business administration majors
FM Global Scholarship $5,000 No specific criteria; two students will be selected from the pool of applications submitted
Dante Petrizzo Memorial Scholarship (RIMS NY Chapter) $5,000 This memorial scholarship will be awarded in 2012 in memory of RIMS New York Chapter Past President, Dante Petrizzo. Eligible to students whose permanent address is within the tri-state area (CT, NY and NJ)
Thomas Regan Memorial/RIMS New York Chapter Scholarship $5,000 Permanent residents of the tri-state area (Connecticut, New Jersey or New York)
RIMS New Jersey Chapter $5,000 Permanent resident of New Jersey
Royal & SunAlliance/Douglas Barlow Scholarship $7,500 The undergraduate with the highest overall Grade Point Average
September 11th Memorial Scholarship $5,000 Awarded based on the Foundation's criteria plus leadership abilities
XL Capital Group/Ian R. Heap Memorial Scholarship $5,000 No specific criteria
Zurich Financial Services Scholarship $5,000 No specific criteria; one student will be selected from the pool of applications submitted.
*if you are selected as a Lockton Scholarship recipient, there is an opportunity to intern at the Lockton Companies in Kansas City, MO.

General Fund Scholarships
In addition to the Named and Memorial Scholarships, The Spencer Educational Foundation, Inc. awards General Fund Scholarships to full-time undergraduate students. The Education Committee of the Foundation will consider applicants who meet the following criteria for the 2014-15 academic year:

  • Full-time student (12 hours or more per term)- undergraduate junior/senior
  • Field of study - normally a major or minor in a risk management discipline
  • Career objective in risk management
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Relevant work experience
  • Leadership skills
  • Doctoral students should have had meaningful work experience

A complete scholarship application must be received electronically by January 31, 2014. Please send only one copy. What is a complete application? Application, essay, resume and transcript must be included with your application when received. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
